In August 2024, I received a diagnosis that I—and most people—had never heard of: appendix cancer. It was discovered following what should have been a routine appendectomy. What I’ve learned since has been both eye-opening and deeply motivating.
A Rare, But Rising Threat.
Appendix cancer is classified as rare, affecting only 2 to 9 people per million. But recent data reveals something alarming: Incidence rates have increased by 232% in recent years across all age groups. It is rising most rapidly among people under 50—a demographic historically considered low-risk. Despite this troubling trend, most people have never heard of appendix cancer. We need to change that.
Why Research Matters.
One of the most common questions I hear is: “If the appendix is removed, isn’t the cancer gone?” Sometimes, yes—if caught early. But often, appendix cancer spreads before it's discovered. That's why research into early detection, better diagnostics, and targeted treatments is so crucial. It could be the difference between a cure and a fight for survival.

That’s why I’m raising funds specifically for The Appendix Cancer / Pseudomyxoma Peritonei (ACPMP) Research Foundation, an organization fully dedicated to this rare disease. Fund and support educational programs for health care professionals and patients/caregivers to keep current with the evolving science and to increase awareness about this rare cancer.
